When I watch my favorite football teams, I can feel really crummy if they lose.  Everyone is somewhat disappointed when their team does not win.  However, sometimes if I'm not careful, my feelings can be intense when I slip and let part of my identity somehow get tied up in my team winning or losing!

I know we, as men, have a tendency to measure ourselves up against other men in the areas of athletics, career, etc.  My sense is that temptation also can be found in women making comparisons in fashion,  jewelry, marriage, youthfulness, etc.

The Bible makes it clear our self-worth as Christian men and women is in our identity and status as God's children and His unconditional love towards us.  To find our self-esteem in anything else, in  bowing down to "idols" so to speak, will eventually let us down.

Whether watching football or playing golf, or listening to men brag about their careers, if I start feeling down, I remind myself, My Self-Worth Is In Jesus Christ!
